Go, You Are Sent!
And just like that, we’re now commissioned foreign missionaries! What a long journey it’s been, but God is SO GOOD! We’re thankful every day for the clarity of God’s call in our lives, and for this moment in our family’s history. We are so grateful for all the love and support we have received along the way!
This event, the Commissioning Mass, was equivalent to graduating “basic training.” We’ve had hundreds of hours of formation, first-hand experience in the field alongside veteran foreign missionaries, and incredible time for family prayer and formation within our own domestic church. Now, we get to turn our sights to the foreign mission field and a whole set of people the Holy Spirit will lead us to in the coming years.
In a couple of months, the Catholic Church will celebrate Pentecost, a celebration that once stood for celebrating the beginning of the harvest season. After Christ’s Ascension into heaven, He fulfilled His promise by sending the Holy Spirit upon His apostles during Pentecost, so that a new harvest may be collected. Despite our current focus on Lent, our Commissioning Mass was a taste of Pentecost to come as we welcome the Holy Spirit even more openly into our lives ahead of the mission which lies before us!
Our next steps will take us to Ecuador as we attend a Spanish language school in May and June. The “full immersion” technique has been a proven way to quickly learn a language, which is critical for proclaiming the Gospel. Words matter. And His Words are the words of eternal life! By traveling to another country and experiencing full cultural immersion, we will be better equipped to enter into His mission for our family in Mexico!
