New missionaries commit to a two year term in their first mission post. This first term of two years begins after the completion of their Intake training. As the first term comes to an end, the decision for missionaries to continue into a third year and beyond is made in conversation with Family Missions Company.

In FMC, each missionary family is considered a team of their own. For single missionaries, there are men’s teams and women’s teams, usually made up of 2 – 5 people. On your team, you will follow a schedule that includes prayer, meals, ministry, and more together. There will also be time for your personal prayer, language study, home visits, homeschooling (for families), chores, time off etc. Sometimes one team may be located in the same country or area as another team, but sometimes this is not the case. New missionaries are usually sent to an area where other missionaries will be there to welcome them, or to a place where FMC has previously sent missionaries.

Currently, our missionaries are serving in Mexico, Ecuador, Peru, Costa Rica, Italy, the Philippines and Asia.

No, we do not. However, healthcare in many of the countries where our missionaries currently serve are a fraction of the costs here in the States. New missionaries will include health expenses or insurance in their budget for fundraising. There are some insurance options specifically for missionaries who live a majority of their year in a foreign country.

FMC missionaries work hard to raise funds through meeting face to face with family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers and inviting them to become a mission partner, one who will support the missionary financially and prayerfully. The funds missionaries raise will go to supporting their life in missions: daily living expenses, ministries, alms, travel, etc. FMC has partnered with an organization that provides coaching and support for missionaries while fundraising. If God has called you to foreign mission, He will provide.

Yes, yes, and yes! Family Missions Company loves and encourages families with any number of children to become full-time missionaries. Our programs and outreaches are designed to allow families to learn, grow, and serve together as mission teams.

Some benefits of being a missionary kid include a unique ability to empathize, language skills, high emotional intelligence and maturity. Some challenges include grief and loss from moving, difficulty with identity and belonging, developing a need for change, or having relationship struggles. You will learn more about this during training.

There are inherent challenges in moving to another country. We cannot guarantee safety in any way. Just like when living in the United States, it is important to teach your kids about safety, to have open communication if anything happens, and to know which places and people are safe for your kids.

Missionary families will often spend some time homeschooling. Parents will spend some time homeschooling during Intake Training. In the mission field, some parents have found that there are benefits to putting their kids into a local school. However, in some places, the school system may not be an environment where the family feels comfortable placing their kids. This discernment depends a lot on each individual child and family. Parents may want to also supplement their child’s learning with other subjects or homeschool programs.
